Laura Karpinski
When I first started out, all I had was passion and a semi-broken camera. By not being able to rely on my camera to take care of the technical details for me, I learned how to manifest my vision without crutches. Now, years later, that experience has made me a better photographer in many ways, as well as given me a deeper understanding and appreciation for the tools I have now.
Photography to me is not just about technically perfect images, but the story or feeling that those images represent - both for my clients and their customers. Delivering meaningful images is a team effort, and I thrive when collaborating with my clients and the extended team to bring everyone's vision into focus.
In product photography (especially in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry), thorough preparation and setting clear expectations with everyone involved are the keys to a successful project. A collaborative approach that anticipates challenges, as well as the experience to quickly resolve them, is what I bring to the table.
Fun facts:
Born and raised just outside of Portland, Oregon.
I know it is a bit of a cliché here in Portland, but I love to be outdoors. Especially pushing to see how far I can go, and to see things most people don’t get to see.
I may or may not have an outdoor gear problem...
My first pets were a snake (my dad was an amateur herpetologist), 2 rats, and a cat (nobody ate anybody!).
I own 3 scars and 5 tattoos, all with stories behind them.
I once successfully dug a car out of the snow with a window scraper and a lot of kicking.
A quote that resonates with me:
"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." --Frank Zappa
